Replacing headlight bulb on 2005 Elantra
I need to replace the left headlight bulb in my Elantra. Of course it's on the side with the battery, so I first need to remove the headlight itself. Per the owner's manual, there are two bolts to remove the bracket, but according to some online sources there is a third bolt to remove at the bottom as well. I did find a 3rd bolt at the bottom, but I'm not 100% sure what it's for. There's a ~2" curved pipe right behind the headlight, that's making it tough to reach the bolt.
Just wanted to post this in case anybody has any suggestions...thanks in advance! |
REMOVAL
1. Disconnect the negative(-) battery terminal. 2. Remove the head lamp mounting bolts (3EA), then disconnect the lamp connectors. https://www.hyundaiforum.com/data/Pa...G/ktkd005d.gifhttps://www.hyundaitechinfo.com/data...G/ktkd005d.gif 3. Replace the head lamp low beam bulb(A), high beam bulb(B), position bulb(C) and turn signal bulb (D). https://www.hyundaiforum.com/data/Pa...G/etke005e.gifhttps://www.hyundaitechinfo.com/data...G/etke005e.gif 4. Installation is the reverse of removal. |
Thanks. I guess I'm confused why the negative battery terminal has to be disconnected, unless the entire battery is being removed. Also, the entire headlight should pull out after step 2, correct?

Every manual say you should disconnect the negative cable when working with the electrical system. However, there's really no need when just replacing a bulb.
Yes, the light should pull out after step 2. |
