Stripped threads on 2004 Hyundai Elantra GT 2004 oil pan drain plug

I've been told by the Hyundai dealership I need to replace my oil pan because the drain plug threads have been stripped. The oil pan is aluminum (I think). They are quoting a price of $400. Can't a tap and die just clean up the stripped threads? Is it possible the threads can be beyond repair?

Thanks for any responses.

A tap can chase the thread but it can not repair the threads.
I have seen O2 sensors pulled out with no threads on them .. only a smear where the threads use to be. So yeah, it is possible the threads are beyond repair.
Temporary fixes makes me fear oil leaks and seized engines.
But, there are a number of other ways to fix the problem without having to replace the oil pan. Just can't think of any at this moment.

Re-tap the hole and put the bolt back in with a gasket or washer. Don't over-tighten. look for leaks.
