Switching to winter rims/tires-tpms help

I have a 2013 Elantra that I am purchasing new rims with tpms sensors and winter tires.
I am getting mixed answers on if I will need to take the car to the dealer to match the new tpms.
Some say that the car will automatically detect and match the new sensors without a trip to the dealer for matching.
Who is correct?

If another car, with TPMS sensors, is parked next to yours then will your car automatically detect and match up with the new sensors?
Of course not. And so, neither will your new tires with the new TPMS
They need to be matched up.
Any good mechanic should be able to do it.
Just got to find one who will not charge too much.

Thanks-so what would be a reasonable amount to pay?

That depends on where you live and who you go to have it done
I don't know.

Shot in the dark here, but where are you located? My wife and I sold our 2013 elantra last year and still have her almost new winter tires (Blizzak WS80's), 16" wheels, and TMPS's, balanced and everything. She put less than 1000 miles on them and then decided in the spring to get the Tucson for the additional size.

But to answer your question, we never had to re-program anything, I swapped out the wheels in our garage and never got any warning lights. Came with 315 MHZ sensors from tire-rack.

Just found out that some newer Hyundai (2013 and newer) are able to distinguish the new tpms and the position of the tpms automatically.
It has to run for a while but it automatically adjust and resets.
