Default 2012 Hyundai Elantra Touring GLS---Am I a fool?

Hello to all. I have been looking for a new car for several months now and have noticed that the price of this Touring is coming down dramatically. I know all about the new GT. I am almost 50 years old and I am looking for something with a little cargo room. I keep coming back to the Touring in all my research because of the nice 65 cubic feet space. I also considered the Honda CRV, the Tuscon, the Sportage and the Soul. I think I can purchase a new automatic with the preferred package with 16" alloy rims and options group 2, for about $16,500 plus tax out the door. Is this a reasonable thing to do knowing in the back of my mind that this an out dated engine/tranny? I currently own a 2002 elantra and my wife has a 2005 elantra hatchback.

Thanks for any feedback and advice, pizzaman.

Well, it's no more outdated than the engine in the 2 other cars you have.

haha very good point there. people get carried away and I do also, with the latest cars and latest technology and comparing what they have to whats new. Its a losing battle unless money is absolutely no object which for most of us it isnt.

I also had these thoughts when buying my 2012 et with the new gt coming out, but in the end, i just said im going for it and havent regretted it. the gt sure looks sweet no question and so does the new mazda cx5 but i think i did ok and thats all i could ask for

Spend your money on the newer technology. Had a chance to rent a Ford Edge for vacation last week. Now I'm not a Ford fan and I'm not pushing this vehicle, but it had a 3.5 liter V6, 6 speed trans with all wheel drive, 285 horse engine, loaded to the hilt. It got 29 mpg on the highway and averaged about 21 in town. Almost as good as my ET with a 2 liter engine. There's better out there, just look for it.
