Question Cigarette lighter instead of 12 volt outlet?

New member here...and proud owner (picked her up yesterday!), of a 2010 ET GLS Sport MT in vivid blue. Am loving her so far!

I do have a question though...I swear that the ET I test drove had two 12 volt outlets at the bottom of the centre dash...this one I've picked up has only one on the right, and the left space has a cigarette lighter.

Now I don't mean ANY disrespect to ANY smokers out there, but I have no need, use or desire for a cigarette lighter in my vehicle; in fact, I would have lots of use for a second 12 volt outlet up front.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I would go about converting the lighter into an outlet? Would Hyundai have the parts I need? Should I have received one in the first place?

Thanks in advance for any responses! I've been enjoying reading all the posts while I've been awaiting delivery of my vehicle...lots of great information here!

The lighter is a 12 volt outlet. Just remove the lighter part itself and plug in any cable you would in the other outlet.

That second plug up front sure is handy. I keep my phone charger on the left one and an inverter on the right one. This let's me keep all my toys charged up when on the road.

Check the back of your ET. There's another plug accessible near the trunk liner on the right. I plug the inverter back there when on a road trip and someone in the back needs to plug in their toys.

Congrats on the new ride!

Hi William:

Thanks for the suggestion about the inverter. I feel pretty stupid about the lighter situation, because of course I've plugged things into my cigarette lighter in my old Escort!

For the past 4 years I've been driving a Honda Fit which has the covered plug instead of the lighter...my brain seems to forget about 'older technology' pretty quickly. Cassette tapes...what are those? haha

Anyway, thanks for the congrats...I'm LOVING my new ET!

The only thing with using the cig lighter outlet, i beleive it has a much lower power output (fused to a lower ampage output) so just be carefull of how much power whatever you are using will draw..
