Default Ditto

Every time I fuel, I try to remember if it popped open or not. Obviously it is an issue and I wasn't crazy, it did used to pop open. So, before I start having to stick something in there to open it farther (just cringe at the paint issue there), better take it to the dealer. Thanks for starting the topic.

I brought mine home new from the dealer this past Monday. Looks like it needs an adjustment as well. It opens ever so slightly and certainly does not "pop" open.

Default Mine Too!

I read these posts and thought,"no problem with my filler door". Then I remembered...we just got back from a trip the other day and I filled up, and when I did, the door opened up only about a 1/4". I pried it with my finger and it did open up, so I forgot about it. This afternoon, I checked it again...same thing. I opened it up all the way, removed the gas cap, then I sprayed some lube in there around the spring and hinge area. I put the cap back on, worked it back and forth a bit, then shut it. I pulled the release and this time it sprung open an inch or so. I tried it again, this time PULLING up on the release lever, then PUSHING DOWN on it after...and the door sprung open about halfway. If it does not get worse...I won't go through the hassle of the warranty claim. If it does...thanks to these posts...I will be able to state the issue clearly to the service advisor. Thanks again to all who post these quirks and occasional serious problems and how you were able to resolve them.

I had my fuel cap door adjusted by the dealer yesterday under warranty. It works like a charm now.

Default What Do They Do?

Mine is back to barely opening. Does anyone who has had theirs repaired/adjusted at the dealership know what it is they do to make it work better, short of replacing the door assembly? Us DIY'ers could likely get in there and make it work if we knew exactly why it is acting up. It would save me probably two 50 mile trips...one to show them what it is doing (not likely they would order parts or schedule a repair unless the service writer actually observed the problem personally)...and another trip to actually have it fixed. Or...has anyone just dove in there and seen the problem and fixed it themselves?

Thanks!

The explanation that I was given was that the cable was snagged and all the tech had to do was push it into position. I personally cannot "see" what they mean, but I have had four fill ups since this adjustment and the door works great.

I had the fuel cover door fixed when I dropped my car off for an oil change at the dealer. I told them that the switch does not release the fuel cover door. On my receipt the mechanic said he lubricated/adjusted the releasing mechanism (?). Its been about two days and the door pops wide open. I was only charged for the oil change ($25).

I got the door opened, and before I shut it again, I moved the plastic line (that holds the cap) over to the left side of the fuel door area. I closed the door, then pulled up on the filler release, then pushed it back down. The fuel door opened up almost half way. Not sure why this works, but for now...at least until the next time I am at the dealership, I will see if this continues to help.
