I had mine back to the dealer for the second time for the fuel door cover not opening. The service manager showed me the trick to have the fuel door work all the time. There is a tether that secures the fuel cap to the body. When you screw down the cap after gassing up the tether that attaches to the cap needs to point straight down. If it is cocked to say 5:00 or 7:00 it interfers with the hinge.

I played around a bit and the service manager's advice seems to be true. Give it a try.

the problem with the fuel door is the type of grease on the hinge, its too heavy causing them to stick, all you have to do is spray the hinge with a good quality penetrating oil, not grease ,and work the door back and forth , there is no adjustment on these , techs tell you that so the can submit a warr claim and get paid
spray liberally while moving the door back and forth

Default as what I'm seeing in the fuel cap!

As what I'm seeing is the spring is to week?
there is no grease in the door mostly to much paint on it?
looking at it , if the Grease is in the cover it is very hard to see!
I have some teflon spray, I'll try that . I use that on my bike work,

Add another to the list of folks with a sticking fuel cover door. Will have it looked at when I bring it in next month.

My fuel cover is done now too. Worked for about 8 months normally. Will try the lubrication/tether trick.

I just got my car and haven't even driven it all that much, to the point that I hadn't even needed my first fill up yet. But after reading this thread, I decided to test the latch, and on the very first virgin pull: (click...) it opened a grand total of about 1/2 inch. I tried aligning the stay tether to the 6 oclock position (as suggested by others) and that didn't change a thing. Insofar as being dissatisfied, I think this is really a minor issue. Frankly, if it wasn't for this thread, I wouldn't have known any better. But now that I do know, I feel like my car is somewhat less than perfect... Dammit. LOL...

If it's popping open 1/2" then it's working normally. It isn't designed to open all the way.

The people with a problem have doors that don't move at all (or very little). The can't grip the edge with their fingers and need to use something like the key to stick in the slot and pry it open.
