Hatch safety recall
 

There is a problem with the hatch on the Touring. It is only locked if the driver's door is locked. There is no way to lock the hatch and keep the driver's door unlocked. This is unsafe. Just imagine your favorite golf clubs crashing into the car behind you when you need to come to a quick stop. Or sitting at a stop light while someone crawls into the back of your hatch. Please visit your dealer ASAP to get this fixed.:eek::mad::(

Interesting to note. Is this an actual recall by Hyundai or something that you're petitioning to have become a recall? Also, how would this be fixed exactly?

That's not a problem, that's how the system was designed. When you use the unlock button it unlocks all the doors including the hatch. If you don't want to unlock all the doors you must physically move the lock button on the door above the handle (not the button by the window switches).

There is no way your favorite golf clubs will crash into the car behind you if you come to a quick stop. First, just because the door is unlocked doesn't mean it will open on its own. Does your driver door open on its own when unlocked? Second, when you come to a quick stop, the golf clubs would want to slide FOREWARD not backward. If anything, coming to a quick stop would PREVENT the rear hatch from opening due to inertia.

And if you are afraid of someone crawling into the back of your hatch then you need to move to a safer location. You say you keep the drivers door unlocked, aren't you afraid someone would open the drivers door? Also, if the hatch is opened the light on the dash would come on telling you someone is trying to crawl in. If you're so afraid, keep all teh doors locked.
