Default Rear seatbelts with childseat

I just noticed today that I do not have enough room to click in the seatbelts with my childs evelflo titan elite seat (rear facing) set in the middle since the seatbelt clicker is set deep in the seats. Does anyone else have this problem? Does anyone know easy way to extend the clicker?

Does your seat not have LUAS connectors ("Lower Universal Anchorage System", also know as LATCH in the US, and ISOFIX elsewhere)? With them you generally don't have to use the seatbelt to attach the seat at all, and I believe all Elantra Tourings feature the anchors in the back seat (they're indicated by little buttons along the bottom of the rear of the back seat, with icons of a figure in a seat IIRC).

The are by far WAY easier to use than trying to get the seat belts just right. We have a Britax Chaperone rear facing seat, and installing it using the LUAS connectors built into the seat was a breeze.

If that won't work for you, IIRC you can get seatbelt extenders. These are short pieces of webbing (the "belt") with a tongue on one side, and buckle on the other. Check with your dealership -- if you can get one short enough, it should solve your problem (you don't want it to be too long, as then the secondary buckle might be inside the infant seat, which sounds like a bad idea to me).

HTH!

Bumping this old thread...

Tried to put in a Britax convertible child seat this weekend and it simply could not be done for the same reasons the OP mentioned. Using LATCH is not an option because those connectors are only available on the sides and we would like to mount the seat in the center (it is the safest).

I read Hyundai doesn't make extenders and doesn't recommend their use.

Going to head out to the store to measure bases that might fit in the center without covering the clicker.

I'm reasonably sure that the manual for our 2010 Elantra Touring states that you can use the inner LUAS pair if you wish to mount a child seat in the centre position. I also seem to recall that there is a centre rear strap anchor in this position.

Check your owners manual for details.

100% FLASE

Read the yellow box on the right:

Your child is not unsafe on either side seat position. Side impact protection is so much better these day that I wouldn't think twice about placing a child on the side.

What would you did if you had twins? You can't put both in the center.

I think you child is safer on the side with the proper latching system than in the center with a "rigged" attachment setup.
