recommendation(s) for rear bumper guard
 

...by which I mean the ledge that leads to the hatch. My mother just bought her Elantra Touring in Canada and first trip to Sears, the rear ledge was scratched while loading a new - and heavy - toilet.

Is there a (permanent or removeable) cover that can protect from scratches?

I have two 2011 Tourings (one for me and one for my wife) and I ordered and put on bumper guards on both of them. They are easy to put on. FOLLOW the instructions. There is a little arrow in the center of the bumper guard that lines up with the center of the door latch. The only problem I found is that on one of the cars the bottom edge of the hatch-back door scrapes on the bumper guard when I open and close the door and looks like it's taking the paint off. The other car is fine. No problems. I bought them from the same place and they are from Hyundai.

becareful with the rear protect bumper, I had one but the space between the gate and the bumper was too small so the door was touching the protector, result... rust on the door.
This was fix under waranty.

I was thinking about getting one of these for my new ET. With dogs jumping in and out of the hatch, some protection would be nice.

For those of you who's door touches the protector resulting in paint loss/rusting... is it rubbing because it was stuck on too close to the door?

Good question. Even the guard on posted pic (red car) shows it can/should be moved rearward slightly.

I suppose if it's too long from front to back, I can sand or cut it so it won't make contact with the door.

Rear Bumper Protector
 

I bought one last year from the same place as the one on the Red Touring. Take a minute to see how/where it SHOULD go. Mine fit perfectly. You can NOT move it around once it is down so just be sure where you put it. Can't be much more simpler than that.
