Went to get a quart of trans fluid for my 4 speed auto (2011 GLS) today and the guy at the dealership gave me a bottle of SPH-4, didn't look right so I asked the service manager if it was backwards compatible with SP-3, he says yes, no problem. OK, came home and did some looking and found TSB # 10-AT-002 on the hmaservice site, saying at the bottom that SPH4 and SPH-3 trans fluids are not interchangeable. Only things spec'd out for SPH-4 are the 2010 Tucson, 2010 Santa Fe, and the 2011 Sonata. Any thoughts?

Owners manual specifies SP-III...I just didn't know if they were compatible...

 

Lets step back and clarify the specific vehicle..

It is a 2011 Hyundai (specific model here) GLS,, I looked up UD Elantra, though Touring is same basic driveline..

I looked in the FD Touring manual, it says SP-III

Looking in the regular 2011 UD Elantra, it says SPH-IV

I would not mix ATF, use what owner manual calls out

OK, sounds like good advice, just wasn't sure if it was like the Chrysler stuff where you could add ATF+4 to ATF+3, but you couldn't use AFT+3 in vehicle requiring ATF+4.
