how to replace diesel filter

Hi everybody

I can't find in the workshop manual, the procedure to replace the fuel filter that is under the hood on the driver's side.
Can you help me find it ?

Thanks
It's a Matrix 1.5 diesel engine.

If you have the replacement filter ,at least you know what you are looking for.
What we do sometimes is; starting at the fuel tank , trace the fuel lines to the engine compartment and you should find the fuel filter before the line gets to the engine.

Sometimes you can find a YouTube on how to replace a part. It helps to know which other models use the same engine. In your case you may search for any car with a small Diesel engine of that production period. If I am not mistaken you need to make sure there is no air in the fuel line after replacing the filter. A video should explain how to do that.

Yes of course

I found the diesel filter under the hood, on the driver's side, close to the windshield as shown in the first picture.

Then I unplugged everything from it (electric cables and pipes), put it on my vise, tried to remove the old cartridge. I was hard but I finally removed it.
On my new cartridge the bottom thread was too small. So I ordered another part, and I am waiting to receive it.

Just about any time you open a diesel fuel system air gets in there and fuel doesn't get to where it is supposed to be.

Before closing the filter up ,clean fuel needs to be put in there and filled to help get the engine started. Then it will eventually start, run rough until all the remaining air is purged.
Some filter assys have a bleeder that can be opened when cranking and pumping so the trapped air can get out.

Yes air seems to be the problem.
The issue is that I can't find the procedure in the service manual.

On this model, there is a lift pump close to the tank that pumps the fuel up to the fuel filter under the hood. So I short circuited the fuel pump relay to make it pump for a few minutes. When I do this the highest hose on the fuel filter brings fuel, and if I unplug the second hose just below (see picture above), the fuel is flowing out from the fuel filter. Doesn't it mean that it is filled up?
