2001 manual trans
 

I have a 2001 Santa Fe, 5 speed FWD, 4cylinder. The engine and trans are out and hanging from a hoist in my garage. I simply can not find the transmission fill/check plug. The only thing that even looks like it could possibly be it is a 2 inch long bolt with a 14mm head. And it points down, so it doesn't seem like it could be a fill plug.

Does anyone know for sure where I'll find the fill/check plug on a 2001 manual trans? I've googled the heck out of it and found nothing.

I'm glad you posted the pictures, because I was starting to worry that I was going nuts that I couldn't find it. Now I know why. That is not the transmission on my car. I'm not sure why mine is different, but mine looks nothing like that. My drain isn't in the same place and there isn't a fill anywhere in the vicinity of the one pictured. Any chance you're thinking of a different vehicle? Don't get me wrong, I'm not doubting you, you seem very knowledgeable, but I'm 100% positive that trans doesn't look like mine.

Trans in my pics is Elantra... but in all truth, manual trans is all similar.

Fill plug is on the driver side of the final drive unit,, I just went and looked at HMASERVICE (providing their pic is correct), my course book is at work...

The drain plug is near bottom, and use a 15/16 or 24mm hex on the head..

The 14mm hex is the pin that holds reverse ildler shaft from rotating in the case.
