2001 with transmission issues - 183K

I've got a 2001 GLS (automatic) with 183K miles now.I am the original owner, have have been dutiful on changes, tire rotation (still the origibal tires), anddealer servicing every 15K. I have been very happy with my SF and will likely get another when this one dies. But I am not ready for it to die yet.

I am having two issues with the transmission. One, when the engine is cold, it hesitates going into gear. It might take 2-3 seconds before it 'kicks in'. After it warms up, there is no prob with going from Park to either Reverse or Drive. Problem two is what there is slippage from going to 3rd to 4th (passing gear) on the highways. The engine revs/whines a bit in this situation.

Dealer says that the transmission seals are worn, and that there is nothing they can do except replace the full trans. He says the transmission could go tomorrow, in six months, or never at all. A new transmission will be 3K. I intend to take it to Aamco next week for their opinion.

I realize that not many of y'all have 180+K on your SF. I know thattransmissions issues do happen. Would you recommend putting a new transmission in an older car, or should I just chuck it all and buy a new SF?

RE: 2001 with transmission issues - 183K

I'm sure you have fixed this issue. I had same issue with another car and it did need to be replaced. On another note, I have a 2001 w/52K and I'm glad to see that 180K is possible..although...there has been many issues in such short amount miles with my SUV..
