2002 santa fe problem
 

Hey everyone, I was driving home today and while i was about half way home I noticed my rpms shot up and realized i wasnt getting any power to the wheels; the mil immediately came on. I pulled over to the side of the road shut off the car and turned it back on, put it in drive, pressed on the accelerator and nothing, the car would rev up but it wouldn't go anywhere. it was as if the car was on neutral. anybody have any ideas?

Assuming automatic, can you go in reverse? DId you check tranny fluid level (I assume you would have, but...)? Sounds like $$$$:(.

It is an automatic; tried reverse and nothing, checked transmission fluid as well and it looked normal. Dealer towed it away this morning, We'll see what they say. :(

Hi, so I have had two Santa Fe's do the EXACT same thing. The first one I sold right away, didn't even bother with anything. The second one (my wife's) just did the SAME thing. Driving down the highway, and RPMs went up, no acceleration. Now this one I'm trying to fix, but I'm hoping its not the transmission. It was running perfectly, why would it suddenly just die? No funny noises, nothing. So since you had yours towed to the dealer, what did you find out if you don't mind me asking? This is quite upsetting, being the SECOND one in my personal experience in a 3-month time frame to happen. Both are 2001's and mine had 148K hers has 173K. Grr. Please let me know ASAP, with as many details as possible. Thanks!

They ended up replacing the transmission and we soon traded it in after that. We had nothing but problems with it. Ours had around 145k. Sorry about your Santa Fe, I know how it feels. The better thing to do is just to get rid of it if you can.

How much did they end up charging you for the transmission? I've been looking at buying a used/salvage transmission and then possibly selling the vehicle. I don't know how much its worth as is but surely it should be worth more with the working transmission in it. Only question is will it be worth it to put the transmission in? Meaning if its worth $1500 now and I put a transmission in for $1000 will I get $3000? Or more like $2000? I'm sure we're gonna lose in the end but how can I minimize that loss is what I'm trying to figure out. Ideas anyone? Thanks for all your info STI24! Any more input on my situation would be greatly appreciated.

If I remember correctly it was around 1500 for the transmission.

It will definitely be worth more if it actually runs. You can try selling it someone that wants to fix it themselves. But no matter what, you will be losing at the end like you stated. You can also just get the new transmission on there and keep it hoping it won't cost you anymore money.

The dealer gave us 4000 for ours almost 2 years ago and we got a 08 subaru legacy that has been really good to us. Anyways good luck with whatever decison you make.
