2003 Keyless Fob programming

I've searched the net and come up with some instructions that refer me to remove the lower driver side panel and get access behind the fuse box. I have done this and cannot seem to find the OFF / SET labeled box that the directions refer me to. Can anyone here confirm or deny the truth that a 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe can be programmed via a switch vs going to the dealership? If you can confirm it, does anyone have a picture of exactly where under the dash this thing is? I'm going back outside now to search for this box again. If I find it, I will be sure to take a picture and upload for everyone. Old cars need love too!

I can personally confirm the 2003 Hyundai Santa Fe can be self programmed. I guess I just needed to step away and go back at it. The diagrams I found online show an antennae sticking out of the ETACS. This is not the case. The switch was hidden behind a thick group of wires on the side of the fuse box under the drivers side dash. Remove the cover under the steering wheel, look on the right side of the fuse box, there's a black box that sticks out quite a bit, where the wires are all piled, move them aside and voila, a yellow / orange label "SET / OFF" Turn to set, hit lock on the remote, turn to off and it works. Easy Peazy. Sorry I cannot post pictures, I don't have a host to link them.

Dah! Please help, now both remotes don't work

I tried the steps listed here for my 2003 Santa Fe as well as confirming that these steps are what are listed on other remote programming sites.

Tried with one remote and didn't work. Tried again with both remotes because it was listed that both need to be done at the same time.

1. turn key to on and wait 5 seconds
2. put switch to set
3. press lock button on remote 1, press lock button on remote 2
4. put switch to off
5. switch ignition off
6. confirm that it works by locking and unlocking.

I've tried a few times now and all I have are two remotes that don't do anything.

Any help would be appreciated.

Are the batteries new in the remotes?

Santa Fe 2003 Program Key Fob Remote Entry

Late to the party, but maybe this will help someone in the future. The Hyundai dealer wanted $145 PER FOB to do this!

2003 Hyundai Santa Fe GLS 2.7L (manufactured August 2002). In my vehicle, the alarm system memory switch is behind the fuse box (to left of brake pedal).

  • Do not put key in the ignition.
  • Move memory switch to SET.
  • Close car doors (not sure if this matters).
  • Press and HOLD the LOCK button on the FOB until the flashing red lights cycle TWICE.
  • Repeat for other fob. (I was only able to program 2 fobs; I’m not sure if the 3rd fob is dead, or if only 2 fobs can be programmed.)
  • Open car door so you can get back under the dash and move the memory switch to OFF.
  • Test remote(s).
