Hello All,
I recently purchased a 2003 Sante Fe with the 3.5L V6 for my son. The vehicle is in great shape except that the steering wheel shakes and vibrates a lot when slow or stopped and cranking the wheel in either direction. Assuming the pump needs to be replaced but before I do that (it seems like one of the bolts is a pain to get to) I thought I'd see if anyone out there has any other ideas.

Is the power steering pump making noise??
Could be something else

Wheels might need balancing.

 

Since no one has mentioned it, I thought I would ask. Did anyone check the fluid level?
Also, if pump is belt driven , a slipping belt can produce steering chatter. especially when max assistance is required like when standing still or parking.
