2005 Santa Fe Hood Hinge Replacement??

New to forum. I have a 2005 Santa Fe. Hood hinge broke & needs replacement. Looks easy, 2 bolts on the hood, remove some of the plastic cowling under the windshield, then 2 more bolts on the body.
Trouble is the back one on the body is a bolt, the front is a nut. How do I access the bolt side of the front nut?

Really? No one?

Have never had to remove one of those hinge assys. Been in this field a while and if possible can you post an image so we can see just what you have.
Maybe we can suggest a tool that you can make or use to help get the job done. What do you think?

So I went & replaced the hood hinge
12mm socket, ratchet, extension, and phillips screwdriver
1. Open hood, support corner of hood with foam or wood block. Pool noodle would work, I had a knee-pad for a gardener
2. Remove piston & hold hood open with something. A level under the front of the face of the hood worked for me
3. Remove the rubber seal on the cowl by popping out the 5 plastic pins in it.
4. Remove 2 phillips screws & wiggle the cowl out
5. 12mm socket to remove the old hinge. I traced the location with a pencil before removal. Needed an extension to get the back body-mounted bolt out
- NOTE! Hood bolts are bolts. Body ones have a bolt & nut. Taking off the nut does not make the threads disappear as I feared.
6. Mount new hinge on hood, tight but loose enough to move
7. Install fender bolts loose but hard to move (not tight). Replace piston.
8. With everything kind of tight, align the hood so the pencil trace is lined up.
9. Tighten everything & give it a try. Slowly close hood & watch for alignment
10. Tighten the crap out of everything.
11. Replace cowl. Top of cowl goes under the glass on the windshield. Otherwise it sticks up a bit.
12 Install 2 phillips screws & pop the rubber back in place.
Took me 1/2 hour. If I had an extra set of hands maybe 15 minutes.

Done

Wasn't too bad.
12mm socket, extension, phillips screwdriver
1. Open hood, remove piston, brace cornor of hood with cushion. Hold center front of hood propped with something
2. Remove rubber gasket on cowl by popping out 5 push pins
3. Unscrew 2 phillips screws. Remove cowl
3. Trace old hinge with pencil. Remove the 312mm bolts & 1 nut (stud will not fall in)
4. Install hood part of new hinge. Tight but loose enough to allow movement
5. Install hood piston
6. install fender bolt & nut
7. Replace cowl. The cowl tucks under the glass, so if it is off the surface it's not right
8. Replace rubber gasket
Try it out. Tighten when aligned
30 minute job. Maybe 15 with a second set of hands

Not sure they'd ship to the UK... luckily found some in a breakers yard... Could do with a place like you've got over here though!!!

If lubrication would help prevent breakage, it might be a good move to lube them regularly.
