Default 2006 2.7l AWD fuel tank replacement

I own a 2006 santa fe 2.7l AWD. It has 106,000 miles. Last night while getting the oil changed at the dealer I was given the bad news that my fuel tank is leaking. The dealer quoted me a price of 1800-3000. This is a lot of money and I have a few questions any help would be appreciated.

Does this really need to be done by the dealer? I have good mechanic that says they will do it for half the price.

How many fuel pumps are in my car? I was told 2 by the dealer?

I know it has 106,000 miles and I live in the northeast with snow and salt but I think this is a little pre-mature failure. Is worth my time to give Hyundai a call?

Other than that it has been a great vehicle. Always reliable. Just one hiccup with the tranny and that was replaced under warranty.
