My wife filled the vehicle with fuel and noticed a gas smell and some gas on the ground. It stopped leaking after she drove a while and the smell of gas was only near the rear of the vehicle. By the time she got home and I checked it i could see where fuel had leaked around the plastic shield in the wheel well just below the filler hole There is a seem there and that area was wet.
Anyone have any suggestions.I told her not to fill it to the top next time while I try and figure it out.

 

For now , sounds like you gave her good advice. If it still leaks, there might be a problem with the fill pipe, but that should show up as an Evap Syst code.

As you know , topping off until it will not take any more fuel is asking for trouble and fueling should stop when the nozzle shuts off, NO topping until it comes out the fill hole.
