So..... I have a 2014 Santa Fe Highlander (not sure if it different in other parts of the world but Highlander is the top grade). I have a EPB error.
Quick run down of myself and the process behind me writing to you today.
Mechanic of 20 years, but not in a workshop. My full time work is in Road Service for breakdown issues.
EPB light came on but vehicle still drivable
Connect scan tool and extracted codes in relation to latching error and electrical motor. C2202 and C2402 codes respectively.
Pulled EPB assy out (which is a bugger of a job to do), opened the unit and found that a gear was missing teeth in motor of the EPB assy. Replaced all 4 gear anyway.
Put it back together and into the vehicle - now park brake applies but doesn't release. C2202 code now gone but C2402 code present
Pulled back out of the vehicle
Replaced EPB module circuit board.
Refitted to vehicle and no different. C2402 code present. Provided 9v battery power to motor that drives the worm gear for the cables and this works in both directions.
Checked live data - signal available for applying park brake and releasing park brake.
Any ideas? Don't exactly want to fork out $1400AUD (trade price) for a complete assy if this isn't the issue. But what other electrical component is left to replace?!!!
Doing some research - some people have been replacing ABS modules. Not sure why this would be the issue with my scenario especially that this is faulting with engine off and simply flicking the switch on or off!
We know the motor works as per test.
What we don't know is; if the signal to release is getting to the motor itself and the only way to be sure is to start where the signal originates and verify the path is complete , which sounds like it has a poor connection or open in it.

Thanks Hanky.
So moving forward I need a wiring diagram?
Signal as per live data is available - thinking therefore BCM working?
Do you know if your scan tool is capable of performing a module Health Check?
Well it communicates with BCM and into the EPB module. No faults apart from C2402 as stated in original thread. I can clear fault - signal showing park brake releasing. When park brake applied is when fault occurs. Switching on live data when fault is there to release - simply doesn’t release!
The only electronic part I haven’t replaced is as per photo. But not sure how this would be related to release park brake or in fact in relation to C2402.
Did you manage to solve this?
I'm in exactly the same position with my 2014 Hyundai Santa Fe. Replaced EPB motor, gears, controller board and still getting a fault code although able to activate and release the EPB by clearing the fault code using the scanning tool. so it seems it's not a mechanical fault. I'm wondering if that little white box with a ribbon cable to the controller board is a position sensor or switch. It's the only thing I haven't replaced.
