Unhappy A/C not working - Evap core

A/C stopped working a few months ago on my 2003 Santa Fe.

Took it to the dealer and they want $1250 to replace the Evaporator Core. They are quoting me $220 for the parts and ~$1000.

From what I gathered, it's a lot of hours to take off the dash board. How easy is this? Any special tools? Any writeups?

Thanks!

Why have the dealer do it when they charge so much more? I had an entire a/c system redone with new compressor, evap, dryer, hoses and all for less than that. Call around to other shops that will work on asian imports, but I suggest having them use oem Hyundai parts for the job, most shops will if you ask them to. Make sure the shop will give a warranty on their work.
