center console on hyundai Sante Fe

I have taken the screws out of the ashtray socket and have removed the screws surrounding the bottom of the center console but still cannot access the light assembly inside . How do I remove the aluminum portion around the automatic shifter and is that necessary.

First, what year Santa Fe?
Second, what are you trying to accomplish? What "light assembly inside" are you trying to access and why?

It is a 2004 and I was trying to replace the lights for the gear shift in the center console.
Thank you for your inquiry but I accomplished getting the center console apart - replaced the bulb assembly and put it back together.

Remving centre console gear change cover

I have a 2009 model. It does not appear to have screws on the side panels.
So how do you remove the cover over the gear change?

Thanks for the reply,
when prying where does one lift/release unit from console?
