Is head gasket leak a problem for AC compressor?

I've been told that the 2002 Santa Fe that I drive has a small leak in the head gasket and that this will be a major problem for the A/C compressor in the not-too-distant future. Supposedly the compressor is located below where the leak is and that over time (5-6 months) this can/will cause the compressor to need to be replaced. Does this seem like a credible scenario? The information was told to me by someone familiar with Hyundai's and who I trust, but it sounds a bit questionable to me. Anyone have a take on this?

My question is, if you know there is a head gasket leak, why would wait 5-6 months to repair it? Driving around for 5-6 months with a bad head gasket is stupid regardless of the A/C compressor issue.
