Injector Flush w/ throttle body service

Own a 02 Santa Fe (2.7L) with 52K miles. Dealer recommended subject service at cost of $179. Is this service necessary? I been told by others that fuel injection cleaning makes less sense today than 12 years ago. - trw

The short answer is no, it is not necessary.

The long answer is that if you have dirty injectors, it indicates another problem exists. Under normal use, modern detergent gasolines can keep your injectors clean. If you have no symptoms that indicate a fuel system problem, then don't have it done. Your dealer is trying make $170 the easy way. Also, one last caution- on some Hyundai models (I think mostly later than yours), putting a fuel injector cleaner in your fuel can actually damage fuel system sensors and cause additional problems.

i would disagree, it all depends on your driving situations. i removed an intake with little over 60k miles on it and you suprise how the intake manifold looks. it's filthy. an injector cleaner not only cleans your injectors but it also helps clean your intake manifold. now if you should remove your intake hose from your throttle body and open it you can have some idea how your intake looks then make that decision on whether you want to do the service.
