Replace power steering pump
My girlfriend drives a 2005 Sante Fe and it's constantly groaning like the psp is going out. I'm used to working on older american made vehicles and have no idea where to start with hers. My first thought was to just replace the pump before it dies on her somewhere (and I'd also like to save some money by doing it myself) Has anybody attempted this that could give me some pointers?
Thanks. |
Which engine? 2.4L 4-cyl, 2.7L V6 or 3.5L V6?
http://www.hmaservice.com/data/Passe...G/epje240a.gif REMOVAL 1.Remove the pressure hose from the oil pump. 2.Disconnect the suction hose from the suction connector and drain the fluid into a container. http://www.hmaservice.com/data/Passe...G/epa9016a.gif 3.To remove the drive belt, loosen the oil pump mounting bolt. 4.Remove the oil pump mounting bolts and disconnect the pressure switch connector. |
It may not be a bad pump...

Thanks guys. It's the 2.7 V6.

It was the resevoir!
I pulled out the resevoir, as suggested by ken99, and that was definitley the issue. There was a lot of built up gunk on the bottom (not really sure how it got in there though)
Found out that part has to be special ordered and costs $67! Lame. So I cleaned it out best as possible with some MAF sensor cleaner, blew it dry with an air gun, refilled it with new fluid and that was that. No more noises at all. :D Thanks for the suggestion! |
