SANTA fuel filter housing

can any one tell me the correct way the big nut on the fuel filter should be with the recess down the way or with reces up under the heating element underside of filter housing then the fuel cannister screws on the same threadthe vehicle is santa 2 litre diesel2006 model have attached pic hope it helps
