Slow moving 2006 Sante Fe

Hi,

I have a 2006 Sante Fe with a 2.7L engine.

Possibly someone has experience with my issue and can recommend a fix.

My Sante fe recently started having issues when you first started accelerating.

The best way to explain is to cite an example. If I am at a stop light the light turns green and I accelerate the vehicle starts out very slowly and eventually gets up to speed and drives perfectly. The issue is only at the start.

Another thing I've noticed is when I attempt to enter my driveway, it struggles to go up the incline if I'm at a standstill.

All of this seems to have started when my speedometer stopped working.

There are no transmission codes ( I checked ). Just a slow 0 - 60 that went from very fast and lively to slow and laboring.

On its face, it would be easy to say it is a transmission issue but it does not have that feel. If I were to eliminate that is there any other thing that may produce this effect??

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

From your description, it sounds like your vehicle is in Limp Mode. That is when the vehicle is locked in 2nd gear due to a fault somewhere and the system has made sure you know it by reducing performance to the point you notice it and protect components in the vehicle drive train.

There are times when a trans converter problem and exhaust converter problem can produce the same result.

A suggestion , leave your scan tool connected and take the vehicle for a ride then without shutting the key off, check for codes .

Problem with thinking the car is in limp mode is it runs perfectly once above say 20 mph. It only struggles from start. Also there is again a lack of power on incline.

Thanks

I have a 2006 2.2 diesel that had the same problem. The cause of mine was a split vacuum hose that went from the intercooler to the turbo. I assume this advances the turbo somehow when you're pulling away.
I appreciate the engines are different but could be worth a quick look.... assuming you haven't solved this already.
