Speedo acting goofy when cruise control is engaged.

Hello, I need a little help. I have a 2004 Santa Fe GLS and lately it's been acting up. The speedo starts jumping around, the engine surges a little bit, and the cruise control cancels itself, but this seems to happen only when the cruise control is on and has been set. It will continue to act goofy even after the cruise has been turned off. I've driven it a few days without using the cruise control and haven't noticed any problems. This seems to be a huge problem with Hyundai's of all models. Could it be the speed sensor, and if so would it only act up when the cruise control is activated?

Thanks in advance for any help.

Okay, speedometer and odometer aren't working very well with cruise turned off. I'm gonna change the speed sensor, but I can't get it done right away (maybe a week). Will there be any damage done if I continue to drive it while waiting to get it fixed?

Again, thanks in advance for any replies.

No damage. The problem is probably a cracked tone ring on the right front wheel. That's a common problem with SF's:

Is that part of the speed sensor or something completely different?

Thanks for responding.

Yes, that is used to determine vehicle speed.
