Timing Belt Broke
 

Well I waited one day to long to change my timing belt, it broke I have 2 dead cylinders any suggestions??[/align]any suggestions on how to pull motor out???[/align]

First let me say I'm sorry. But how can you say you only waited ONE day too long?! Try at128,000 miles too long. These are your threads about having 188,000 miles on that belt aren't they:

Ken99, Doohickie and myself told you more than a month ago to get that belt changed ASAP.

Before you start pulling the engine, try just taking the heads off first. It may just be some bent valves. The block and pistons may be fine and only the heads need repair/replacing.

Good luck and don't wait so long next time.

Yes you did!!!!
I hope some one else learns from my mistake. Well I got a new motor from the salvage yard with 35000 miles on it 6 month warranty, first thing I did is change that timeing belt even though it look real good. I am going to keep the bad one for a spare I am going to work on the heads hopefullyits just bent valves like you said. Thank again for your info.[/align]

Sorry if I sounded harsh but you aren't the first (and you won't be the last) who waited too long to change the belt. Lots of people on boards like this one will tell you that 60K is too soon and it will last longer. In your case, it lasted A LOT longer but I've heard of belts breaking in as little as 65K miles. Anything over 60K is just too long in my opinion. Best of luck with the engine or head swap.

Hi NoveaResource, its ok you were right all the way I came on here for advice got some good advice and I didn't follow though. I only said that because I bout the belt the day after your advice but I had to go on a trip so I didn't get to it before I left. On or way back home my son needed to drive or santa fe to work well the next day I was going to change it but. I almost got the engine out hopefully I well have it running this week

Don't mean to hijack the thread, but is 60,000 the timing belt service interval for all 2001-2006 Santa Fe's?

That is for all Hyundai engines with a timing belt (2.0L 4-cyl, the 2.7 and 3.5L V6). Only the new 2.4L Theta 4-cyl, the 3.3L and 3.8L Lambda V6's have chains that don't need replacement.

dont forget to go ahead and change balancer belt and its bearing as well also it is a good idea to change the timeing belt tensioner bearing . and one more thing to think about if are on your 120000 mile timeing belt change go ahead and change your water pump while you have it all apart cause if it goes bad you have to take all your timeing belts off to get to it oh yea im talking about an 04 santa fe with the four cylinder engine
