06 Sonata Check Engine light with codes
 

06 sonata 4 cylinder
70k miles

Codes are:

P2422, and P2422 p/d

Reads:

EVAP System
Vent solenoid valve stuck closed

What exactly does this mean and how do I go about fixing it? Thanks!!

It means you probably fill up your gas tank until it's almost spilling out. It has "gas logged" the charcoal canister in your evap system. The little bits of charcoal in the canister have floated up the evap hose and clogged up the system. You might find it hard to fill your gas tank now because it won't allow gas to go in without shutting off the pump.

Do you have any other symptoms other than a check engine light?

none at all

light came on about 2 weeks ago but went off within a week, I guess 3 trips w/o problem?

But it came back on today so I figured I'd read the codes. Car seems fine, no sputtering or anything.

Take off the solenoid and see if it's dirty first.

There shouldn't be any consequences other than the check engine light, and you fail state emissions test.
