06 Sonata obd P0011

I have an '06 Sonata GL (4 cyl). A couple months back the CE light came on and it showed P0011. In a process of elimination, I have replaced the following: camshaft position sensor, knock sensor, and most recent, the oil control valve. Light remains on.

In addition, I have a knock that is coming from somewhere. I cannot narrow down its location. It did not exist when the CE light first came on, but has become more and more pronounced as of late. It does not knock when first started (or cold), but picks up after a little bit of acceleration. The knocking will continue in idle, as well. I also changed the oil recently and added a quart of Lucas in hopes that if it was something internal, it would quiet it a bit. No change in the sound.

I have followed the instructions that come with the code it's throwing, but have not had success. Any ideas out there of what this might be? The car does not have a timing belt - has a timing chain, so there should be no problem here and if it is the timing chain, it's not cost-effective, in my opinion, to repair it since I would not be able to do that myself!

Oh, it has about 72k miles right now and no other issues.

0011 is common 2.4 code.... replace the oil control valve... part been changed by Hyundai. Starting to see them randomly in last couple month. Part cost is something like $52

While you in there, spritz the #1 intake flange at the head and make sure the intake gasket is not cracked/vacuum leak..... that is the other big problem with the 2.4

Marmadd,

I have had the same exact problem with my 06 Sonata 2.4L. Did you find a solution? I have the P0011 code along with an engine knock around 2000 RPM and also when letting off the pedal when accelerating. I have replaced the OCV as suggested and it has not corrected it. Anyone have any ideas? I have heard a lot of talk about issues arising from not using genuine Hyundai oil filters, but I never have and this problem just arose (car over 104,000 miles.)

How clean do you keep your oil? The OCV filter may be clogged. The filter is in the block and can only be accessed with the cylinder head off.

I have always changed it regularly.
