You might consider either the Autolite ASPAP64 (which you may be asking about) or a Champion CHA3322. Both are platinum tipped plugs. I've had a tendency to use more Autolite plugs and have had good luck with them.

Thought so, but the part numbers I cited came from NAPA Online. I went to the Hyundai Service Site to see what was originally installed in the car. Hyundai used either the NGK PGR5C-11 plug or the Champion RN10PYP4 (which the Champion site says is still a valid part number). The Champion plug is a double platinum plug, so the Autolite APP64 plug would be the correct alternative.

RE: 2001 hyundia snonata 2.4 L spark plug question

The AP64s should work just fine, they simply will not last as long. You may only get 50,000 miles out of set instead of 100K.

RE: 2001 hyundia snonata 2.4 L spark plug question

while back i called autolite bec i had a 01 5.4 ford 4x4 . the reason for the call was that i heard a rumor that ford owns autolite.. The tech says that a auolite 103 plug is the same as the Motorcraft sp479. what the tech says is the single plaitum plug is a standard plug in a 01 5.4 and he said that its a 100,000 plug.. . He also says that the plugs are made side by side.. but with a diffrent name..

I heard rumors so i called a tech and watied 45mins on the phone..

I run ap104 in my other car i pulled them out running 50k and no gap reduction.. I was going to pull them at 60 k and check them again..

I think we're splitting hairs here. Yes, some applications call for only a single platinum design, my 95 Ford Taurus is one of those. Both the original NGK and Champion OEM plugs used by Hyundai were double platninum plugs. If you wish to stay OEM on the plug replacement, I would use the APP64. If you wish to save money using the AP64, I think that's fine too. I just don't think the AP64s will last as long as the APP64s in the Sonata, but they may well last longer than you plan to keep the car.

The service interval is set by the auto manufacturer for a variety of reasons, not by the specific plug installed. I'm guessing Hyundai wanted to be conservative to avoid any performance degradation and to make sure the engine management and pollution control systems worked as designed at all times.

No, at least not in my mind.
