2002 4cly Sonata Stalling

I love my Sonata! I bought it in '03 as a left over. I haven't had any problems except for replacing the tires and brakes and oil changes. I must say this car is the easiest brake job I have ever done!

My 2002 4cyl Sonata began to act like it wasn't shifting right - seemed like it coughed, but it would run okay after it hiccupped (it happened a few times and I began to think it might be transmission related). It seemed to run okay for a while and then it stalled.

It would NOT start - no matter how many times I tried. After about 5 minutes, it started and ran without any problems. The next time I went out, it happened again. I scanned it with a code reader and it said I had a "miss" in the 1st cylinder. I cleared the code hoping it would be okay, but it happens every time I drive it.

It seems that after the initial start, I can drive up to 2-3 miles before the stall, but after waiting about 5 minutes, it will start and run without problems until I park it and start it again. One time it happened while accelerating at 55 mph. It can be a bit scary as you lose the powersteering and power brakes. Now, I'm looking for a cure. Any ideas? Do I need a tune-up? It has about 94,000 miles on it.

Thanks, Michael
