2006 Hyundai Sonata

;) Hi,

I'm new to the forum but I've had my wonderful Sonata three years. I'll never buy another car but a Sonata.

I do have a question. My mechanic said that at 68,000, my Sonata was due for a transmission flush. He explained how they used the transmission flush that Hyundai requires. I trust him, but now that I've found this forum, I'm beginning to wonder if I need to spend the $275.

Any words of wisdom would be appreciated.

I'm glad to be here.

Yes, it is time to have the transmission serviced. Nothing will extend the life of the transmission more than routine maintenance. Rebuilding a failed unit or installing a re-manufactured transmission is typically $2,500. The regular service interval for the tranny is 105,000 miles, but the severe schedule in the owners manual is every 30,000 miles. I just serviced the tranny myself in the family's 2009 Sonata at ~34,000 miles. The fluid wasn't black, but was very much discolored and had the acrid odor of well-used transmission fluid. I can't imagine stretching the maintenance to 105K. Make sure that whoever performs the service uses SP-III type transmission fluid.

Welcome to the forum.

And my mechanic did mention SP-III type transmission fluid

Hi, Ken,

Thank you so much. I KNOW how much a new transmission costs - that's why I sold my THREE YEAR OLD TOYOTA CAMRY. It needed a new transmission. I think I probably spent more on that car in three years than any other car I've owned - especially my "baby!" Love Sonatas. I will make sure I return prior to December - the owner of the garage said I should definintely get it done before the end of the year. And I will make sure I do so. Thanks again! Glad to be here.:)
