2006 Sonata Oil Pan Rust

Anyone else have a rusted out oil pan on their Sonata? I had a hole rust through mine and lost the engine two weeks after an oil change at the Hyundai dealership.

The dealer said they didn't see any rust since the oil pan is covered by a plastic skirt. The rust was on the front of the oil pan on the passenger side. The car has been routinely serviced and washed throughout the year to avoid premature rusting.

Just curious if I'm alone on this.
Thanks!

2006 Sonata Oil Pan Rust

Hello NH_Lakes:

Yes. I just experienced the same thing with my 2006 V6 Sonata, 86,000 miles. I just had the oil changed 4 weeks ago. Last week I noticed significant oil spots all over my driveway. I climbed under the car to see the oil pan was soaked with oil and was completely rusted. Oil was oozing from all of the cracks in the rust. I just ordered a new oil pan, so I caught mine in time before the engine was damaged. I am going to install it this weekend before the Super Bowl.

This sounds like a problem with the pan.

Plastic Skin?

How did the Koreans think when they covered the oilpan with a plastic skin?

I also have a 2006 Sonata with approx. 146,000 kms (~90,000 miles) on it. I have no problem with rust on my oil pan and live in an area where lots of salt is used on the roads in winter. My Sonata does not have any plastic skirt covering the oil pan so either the dealer is lying or mine is missing. I believe the newer ones do have plastic shields under the engine bay.
