2006 Sonata. PS/Belt squeal - not fixed by shop
2006 Sonata GLS v6; 119,000 miles
This morning backing out of my driveway there was a really loud squeal. The squeal happened just a I started driving forward and turning. Later in the day I got the same thing again, so I took it to the shop and they replaced the serp. belt and tensioner (for a total of $485. Ouch). After I got it home, it happened again - not as loud - after it had cooled down for 20 minutes or so. I guess the only move I've got is to take it back to the shop in the morning, but I don't want to get soaked for something else that doesn't fix it. Apart from the belt, it there something obvious that my mechanic is missing? Anything I should tell him to check? Anything that might save me shelling out more money! :) Thanks! |

Harmonic balancer was done

In the morning I couldn't reproduce the problem, but had a consistent moderately loud squeaking noise. At the shop they found that the Harmonic Balancer was done with. They showed me it and it was in very. After replacing that everything was fine: no squeaks at all. Total was $750 ... |
