2007 SE - Wheel size options (snow tires)

In the past with my other cars I have purchased a second set of wheels and tires for the winter months. This simplifies the process of switching from all-season to snow tires.

I went to price out the cost of wheels and snow tires for the sonata and realized that I could benefit from a less sporty sized tire in the winter.

The car comes equipped with 215/55 R17's mounted on 17x7.5 wheels I believe.

Are there any substitutions I can make here? I would like to use a different size wheel than the 17x7.5 so I can have a larger selection of snow tires to choose from.

Actually, your Sonata has 17x6.5" wheels with an offset of 46mm.

Also, check the tires again because it could also have 225/50-17 tires.

I'd suggest a set of 205/65-16 tires on 16x6.5" wheels. If you can't find tires that size, a second option would be 215/60-16 tires on the same 16x6.5" wheels.

More advice, don't bother buying new TPMS sensors. Hyundais can only be programmed with 4 sensors at a time and you have to get a dealer (at a cost) to do the reprogramming. So you'll be paying the dealer to reprogram your TPMS system every time you swap tires. What I did with just kept the factory TPMS sensors in my summer wheels and used winter tires/wheels with no sensors. I had to look at the yellow "TPMS" light on the dash for the 3 months I had the winter tires on but as soon as I swapped back, the light went out.

Tires -- P215/60R16 Michelin steel-belted radials P225/50R17 or P215/55R17 Michelin steel-belted radials (Limited and SE, optional on GLS)Compact temporary use spare tire

Wheels -- 16 x 6.5-inch steel (GLS)17 x 6.5-inch 5-spoke aluminum alloy (Limited and SE; optional on GLS

Find you some steel take offs, and put your sonws on them... crunch a steel wheel, no great loss.

Here's some steel wheels ads :

He already said he has a 2007 SE and 17" wheels/tires. He doesn't have the 215/60-16 tires and 16x6.5" wheels you highlighted.

Info swiped from the "OM" section of HMASERVICE/specifications to show applicable tire-wheel sizes for Sonata of 2007.. :)

Yes, but he's not asking what the factory size tire is. He's asking what size winter tire he should use. And the answer to that question is either 205/65-16 or 215/60-16 tires on 16x6.5" wheels.

I don't believe I have TPMS. I recently had a flat tire and no light illuminated...as a matter of fact, after installing the spare there was still no light.

Thanks for the wheel size advice! :)

TPMS wasn't on the Sonata until the 2008 model year.

Then that's even easier for you. I wish my 2006 Tucson didn't have TPMS. I hate it. It just makes my life more difficult doing the winter tire/wheels.

I was not aware of that. I thought all mid to upper level Hyundais had TPMS since 2006.

I second the 205/65/16 winter tire size recommendation. That is what I use on my 2006 Sonata which came from the factory with 225/50/17. Works great!

The steel wheels from the GLS will work just fine with the stock tire size. If you measure the outside diameter it will be exactly the same at 80 inches. I replaced the original GLS steel wheels and tires on my 2009 Sonata with a set of Limited wheels I purchased off ebay. Works just fine. The profile is 55 instead of 60 but the circumference is the same which is all that matters.

As to whether the TPMS can't be programmed for more than four wheels, I tend to doubt this. I have a fifth Limited wheel with TPMS which also works so I have five in all. I got it because if I picked up any more nails and had to have a tire repair I didn't want to drive around with that stupid looking mini spare. I have three other original sensors which will also work should I ever need them I removed from the original steel wheels. Now if I could only get rid of those wheels taking up space in my shed. May put them out for the junk man.

WOW! I thought 24" wheels were big bit 80" diameter wheels! That's amazing. Do you need a ladder to get in your car?

Hyundai cars can only have 4 TPMS sensors programmed. Not 8 not 5. Yes, if you get a flat and put on the spare (the spare does not have a sensor) the TPMS light will still be on until you fix the flat tire.
