2007 Sonata Heater\AC Blower
 

I will keep this short, my son offered to change the battery in my 2007 Sonata and put the cables on the wrong terminals, yes it was not pretty, I managed to get everything working againg by replacing fuses and other parts but since then the blower for the heat and AC just blows "normal" air, once in awhile it will blow cold air if the AC is on and hot air if the heat is on but not always, what should I check for first? Thanks for your time as always.

I would look into the blend door actuator, sometimes called blend door motor.
It is also possible that the HVAC control switches have been fried.

In this model Sonata the HVAC control sits in a pod that can be pulled out of the dash. Use a pocket knife or similar thin blade and insert it just above the level of the cubby to carefully pry it out. If you go in too low you may damage the mechanism for the cubby door. (Ask me how I know).
I am not sure how to get to the blend door motor.

Is the "actuator" and the "motor" the same thing? I performed a "reset" TWICE as outlined below from the advice of a "friend" but never heard the doors (actuators) being opened and closed, I also noticed that the front defrost mode does not work, this did work until the incident, I just failed to mention it earlier.

AC reset
Turn the system on full cold Max AC.
Radio OFF.
Turn ignition OFF.
Pull the HVAC (AC) fuse from interior fuse box. Leave out for 1 minute and replace.
Turn key to run/on position....NOT start.
Do not touch any controls. You'll hear the doors (actuators) being opened and closed. The HVAC module is learning the full open and full close positions. Wait until the system is completely done with the learning process. Less than a minute.
Start and test the system.

yes, actuator or motor are the same thing: a small plastic box with a motor and gears that sit on the end of the door's axle.

I assumed your control module was manual. The reset procedure only applies to a digital control module. It appears the digital one has a small display screen whereas the manual does not. If yours is indeed computerized it is even more likely the culprit.
This video shows how to remove either one.
Used ones can be had reasonably through Ebay etc. I would replace the control module. It's easy to get to. If this won't fix it I'd be looking for the actuator.

That explains why the reset did not work. The manual one comes out just like the digital one shown in the video. Take it out and inspect the back side for obvious signs of damage. Maybe it smells burnt? There is a good chance you find one at a local pull-a -part. Years '06 to '08 match for sure. For '09 the dashboard was redesigned.

That’s easy enough, I wonder if I can find that entire piece for sale either online or in store?

I would not be afraid of buying a used one from a high ranking E-bay seller. I have had good experiences doing that.
