2007 Sonata O2 sensor
Gents Have a 2007 Sonata with the 2.4 engine. Got a check engine light .... noted the down stream O2 sensor is faulty. All well and good but I can't get an O2 socket tool,,,,the one with the slot cut out....onto the lugs of the sensor. There appears to be some sort of lip close to the sensor lugs that interferes with the socket tool. Have any of you gentlemen run into this problem? This is less of a fun job than I was expecting because the down stream sensor is in a awkward location so any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
Hi Dave, Merry Christmas.
Don't know without actually looking at the components , but if you have the replacement sensor in hand, what if you broke the top off the present sensor then you would be able to get an ordinary deep socket on the base of the junk sensor and remove it. Do you have room to do that?
Also, a little PB Blaster sprayed in the sensor before removal should make the job easier. What do you think?
Just wondering if you are working with 1/2 in drive or 3/8 drive sockets. You would have better leverage with 1/2 in drive tools, conditions permitting.

Well, I didn't think of breaking off the top of the old sensor to get a socket onto the lugs....give it to you Hanky for thinking outside of the box. That said though, I'm concerned there might be some kind of unthought of problem forcing me to reinstall the old sensor. I often run into unanticipated problems... won't use my wife an example though. Anyway, I'll keep fiddling with the sensor and if I cannot make headway I'll do as you suggest. Thanks Hanky and you and your misses have a great holidays also! . .
