2008 2.4ltr Newbie with a few questions..
 

I just got it 6 weeks ago. It's a year old with 27k - when I got it.
- My first Hyundai so I'm not sure if it's a timing belt or chain. If it's a belt, what's the recommended change interval ?
- Is the factory warranty like other makes where it follows the car and not the owner ?
- Any success with retaining the stock head unit but upgrading speakers ?

-The Sonata from 2006 on has a timing chain whether 4 or 6 cylinder.
-In the U.S. the warranty for the second owner is reduced as compared to the original. I believe it is just the powertrain portion of the warranty which gets reduced from 10yr/100,000mi to 5yr/60,000mi but the owners manual/warranty book with the car should specify.
-I changed my head unit which exposed the OEM speakers weaknesses but have not changed them. I would think any upgrade to the speakers even with the factory head unit would be worthwhile.

New cars come with several layers of warranty coverage. Only the 5 year/60K bumper-to-bumper warranty carries over to subsequent owners.

That is not correct. All warranties move to subsequent owners. The only exception is what rallyman noted, the 10y/100k drivetrain warranty is reduced to 5y/60k from original date of purchase.

I know this for a fact because I've purchased 3 used Hyundai corp vehicles.

I didn't purchase it from a Hyundai dealer so does that make a difference ?

No, it shouldn't. I purchased my wife's Kia Sedona (Hyundai Entourage twin) from a Nissan dealer.

Yes, it was stupid of me to say that because I knew and had forgotten the details. However, the link cited by Novaresource is for an earlier version of the warranty called the "Hyundai Protection Plan". Your 2008 was sold with the "Hyundai Advantage Warranty Plan" which has subtle differences. I don't think the older plan has any emission components seperately covered and the newer plan does (which is important if the catylitic converter tanks early). Also the HPP plan required an official transfer. I cannot find such a step is necessary under the Advantage plan. Go to:

Some owners manual reading this weekend..

Forgot to ask: cost effective or even possible to fit factory fog lights or better off going aftermarket with their own switch ?

I'm the wrong guy to ask because my Sonata is a Limited that came with the lights from the factory. You should start another forum thread to ask this question so that those that know or have an opinion can respond to the subject line.
