2009 Sonata Steering wheel radio controls
Hi, I'm new to the forumand now own a new 2009 Sonata GLS. I have a question if someone would be so kind to indulge me. I bought a GLS and it does not have the steering wheels radio controls, just a blank. Does anyone know if I can buy the radio controls and install in my GLS?
thanks, Phil |

I made the same mistake and really want the audio controls on my 2009 GL. I love scanning the XM radio but its slightly out of reach. Pls respond if you've found a way.

GLS's no longer have steering wheel controls standard? They did on my 06. Course they left a lot to be desired since you couldn't change the stations with them. A moot point now that I put an aftermarket head unit in and they no longer work. I was hoping by now they had fixed that issue.

That is correct, the 2009 GLS no longer has radio controls. There is a blank plate there. I still think there is a way to put the in my car so I'll research and get back to the forum with anything I can find.

I have the pop equip pkg but you still can't scan through the xm radio with the strg whl mtd audio controls. Only your presets. What a drag huh?

RE: 2009 Sonata Steering wheel radio controls
I hate to "me too" but I'm interested in installing the steering wheel audio controls on a 2009 GLS w/o the PEP. Anyone figure out if you can do that or not yet?

It's not a plug and play system. You would have to wire the wheel and column.

RE: 2009 Sonata Steering wheel radio controls
OK, thanks. I thought maybe Hyundai might have made all the wiring harnesses common to lower manufacturing costs and, thus, you might be able to just install the unit in the steering wheel and maybe a jumper harness at the radio. Apparently, that is not the case. Too bad, but I knew when we bought the GLS "bare bones" model (e.g., no PEP pkg) we were giving up some things like that.
