2011 Sonata

I have the 2011 Sonata, according to Hyundai the MPG should be 22/35, but my Sonata wont even do 21....
just wondering what do you guys get??!!

How many miles are on it? The engine needs to break-in and loosen up. Mileage will get better but it also depends on driving style. City, hilly and heavy throttle driving will lower MPG as will A/C usage.

it has 1600 miles. I understand it depends on lot of factors, but not even 21 MPG seems a bit too low...and on top of that is my wife who id driving it, and I know she wont drive crazy.
Therefore just wondering what other ppl have for the MPG. Can they get anything close to 35 MPG at all???

Where does she drive? Highway or city? Hilly or flat? Are the tires low on pressure? Has she been using the A/C a lot? Do you use gas with ethanol?

KFC Jul 27, 2010 01:20 PM

combin Highway and city, mostly flat. tires pressure not too sure, she wont have the A/C on in the morning. she only drive 20 miles/day. just go to work then back home.

But she will have the A/C on for the trip home. That will lower MPG. First I'd check the tire pressures and then check the ethanol content of the gasoline you use. Gas with 10% ethanol will give lower fuel economy (about 3%) due to having about 35% less energy per unit volume. Also, how are you getting your MPG numbers? Are you basing it off the trip conmputer or calculating it manually? Do you fill the tank the same way every time?

I calculate that manually.

I average 29-30 daily driving. Keep in mind that my daily commute is a pretty straight, flat road with a 55 mph limit. On my interstate driving, I average between 34-36 and that was with my Sonata loaded down (moving).

Also, for real city driving, I was avg. around 25 mpg.

2011 sonata - 1800 miles.

my car now has 6200 miles on it, I am getting 38mpg on the highway.

Dunno if this helps..but,when i was living in Illinois i was getting about 22/23 highway, then i moved out to Denver and i am getting about 27/28 sometimes even 29/30..but, that is when i am in the high country.
