99 Sonata horn location (not working)
My 1999 Horn is not working. So Its either the switch on the wheel (I hope not) or a bad cable harness or horn. I can check the horn but can not find it. Can some one tell me where they hid it? You can allways toot it and see...I can't [:@]
Thanks! |

Did you check the fuse?

RE: 99 Sonata horn location (not working)
My fuse huh? My radio powers up but does not work. I wonder what else maybe on that circuit. Where is the fuse box?

RE: 99 Sonata horn location (not working)
Ok I found at least two 10 Amp fuses that were bad. I will have to check the rest tomorrow and get them replaced. I will post back to see what gets fixed lol. BTW I do not have any fuse cover to tell me what fuse is what....

RE: 99 Sonata horn location (not working)
OK Fuses replaced wires connected to horn but when I push on the horn it feels VERY empty and like there is no horn contact. Can anyone with a 99 verify this feeling when they push the horn button down? Its weird its like there is no airbag (and I do have an airbag light on). I asked the tech at the dealer and he said if the air bag deployed then the wheel would be toast. My wheel :looks" fine just feels empty.

Note that is for a 99 Sonata. Other years will differ.

RE: 99 Sonata horn location (not working)
Thanks Doohickie!
Since I can not locate a manual your help is very useful for me. Three questions: 1. Can you tell me where the horn relay is? 2. Can you email me the file you attached I could not view and assume its the graphics show what numbers are associated to which fuse physically. My fuse box has no numbers. 3. Again asking my airbag light is on not sure if its related to the horn problem. BUT it feels empty when I push in to sound the horn. I know this sounds stupid but I am wonder if ther is even any contact under the pad. Is this the "relay" you are refering to? Is this part of the airbag assembly? |

Can you see the picture in this post? It should show both the relay and fuse locations for the horn. Also, I noticed that in some places in the 99 schematics, it shows a 20A horn fuse; in others it is 10A. So if you see either one in your fuse box, don't be surprised. Finally, I found this for the horn system. It's from a 2002 Sonata but I think they are the same. http://i42.photobucket.com/albums/e3.../02Sonata3.jpg The multifunction switches and slipring connectors are built into the steering wheel. It sould like maybe there something going on with the switch in the wheel and/or the air bag. If you need a new airbag, you could either try to find one on ebay or at a local salvage yard. I found this one currenty up for auction. I'm not 100% sure but I think it might work ona 1999 model; it's about $85 shipped. http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/02-05...QQcmdZViewItem |
RE: 99 Sonata horn location (not working)
Thanks Doohickie!
Ok I found that I am missing my horn relay thats the good news! The bad news is the dealer needs the old number as his information is insuficient by just telling him year make and model and telling him my horn relay. Its crazy and even he is frusterated. apperently the techs have the same issue. So can anyone look at their 99 horn relay under the hood under the relay panel and let me know wht number the horn relay is? Doohickie funny you should mention the slip ring as the #$%%^ guy I just got the car from said he just replaced it. The car was apperently broken into and now I am dealing with several things one of which is a non functional horn (BTW it was disconnected too). I do feel as if there is no switch. Do you know if thats part of the air bag assembly or just underneath it? How do you get all this info? I can not even find a manual and the stuff the daler has is not very good. |
