Adjusting driver side door?
 

Hi all!

I am new to the forum. We have a 2006 sonata that I love. Only minor issues such as the rear defroster had to be repaired and the side mirrors stopped functioning correctly so they had to fix those. No other issues and certainly no big problems.

One thing though, I know I have been guilty of really slamming the driver side door if and when I was in a bad mood. Stupid, I know.
Anyway, now we notice more road noise and wind noise from this door as if it is not closing correctly or tight enough. Is this easy to adjust?
We had it in for an inspection and the mechanic said he noticed the door is not shutting tightly and needs adjustment so I decided to take it in for warranty work. Has anyone tried this themselves, and is it easy?

Here are instructions from http://www.hmaservice.com/for adjusting the door striker. Small adjustments go a long way. There are additional instructions available for adjusting the entire door, but those more involved and easy to screw up door alignment if you are not careful.

DOOR STRIKER ADJUSTMENT[/align]

Make sure the door latches securely without slamming it. If necessary, adjust the striker (A): The strike nuts are fixed.
The strike can be fine adjusted up or down, and in or out.[/align]

1. Loosen the screws (B), then insert a shop towel between the body and striker.[/align]

2. Lightly tighten the screws.[/align]

3. Wrap the striker with a shop towel, then adjust the striker by tapping it with a plastic hammer.[/align]
Do not tap the striker too hard.[/align]

4. Loosen the screws and remove the shop towel.[/align]

5. Lightly tighten the screws.[/align]

6. Hold the outer handle out, and push the door against the body to be sure the striker allows a flush fit.
If the door latches properly, tighten the screws and recheck.[/align]
