Default Auto Dimming Rear View, no so auto or dimming

2011 Limited with Homelink/Auto dimming mirror

I find I'm often looking to "flip" the mirror into night mode due to glare. Is anyone else annoyed with the lack of dimming on this unit?

Are you sure it's turned on? Is the green indicator light on? Are the optical sensors blocked with dirt?

Are you a service writer by any chance? ;-)

Yes, it's on. It does dim, just not nearly early enough before I'm already wishing it was a traditional flip down style.

You only answered one of my questions. Are the optical sensors blocked by dirt or anything else? There are 2, one facing back to the rear window and on facing forward to the windshield.

Hyundis does not make the mirror, they just purchase them from an outside company. If you still have a problem with it, I'd suggest contacting the manufacturer of the mirror: http://www.gentex.com/

Yes, the mirror is new and unblocked. Would be nice if it was adjustable for sensitivity, oh well.

Default Auto Dimming mirror troubleshooting

Greetings to all. I have a one month old Sonata and have noticed that the auto dim mirror doesn't seem to dim much. Compared to my 2010 Tacoma that is.

So, if I turn off the auto function, shouldn't I see rear lights much brighter? When I do this, seems not to make a difference. I am questioning if it works......

keep in mind, not all auto dimming mirrors are equal. I had a 2011 Lincoln MKZ fully loaded as a rental for a month when I totalled my Spec5 hatch. It had an auto dimming mirror that really was crap. It turned everything SLIGHTLY green but not much less bright. I usually just turned it away so I wasn't blinded...

If the mirrors don't work (mine doesn't either) sufficiently then they should be recalled. It's a safety issue and I've spoken with the manufacturer of the mirror. They confirmed that the mirror should darken more quickly and more deeply given the conditions where I described it does not. They suggest it might be the location of the mirror in the vehicle (not enough of the "glare" hits the sensor) or the mirror is defective.
