Big Sonata Trouble!!!

Hello! My 2001 Sonata which is a 4 cylinder; 2.0 (not sure on the liters) has given me soooo much trouble since I bought it. I bought it with approximately 47,500 miles on it. It was previously a rental, however alot of major stuff has been serviced on it. More recently, at startup, the car runs very roughly then idles down after a few minutes. When I begin to give it gas, the car is sluggish and sort of like "bucks" like it wants to cut off.In addition makes a grinding noise at high RPMS. As of yesterday, I started the car to hear the grinding noise again. Attempting to replicate the noise a again, I turned the car back off only to find it will not turn over at all. I do however, have power to all electronic stuff (windows, radio, lights, sunroof, etc....) It appears the battery is working just fine. Could it be the starter?

You did check oil regularly and had it changed recently? So it does have oil now right?

Yes, it does have oil. I actually had it towed to a guy and when I arrived, the hood was open and the engine was hot. He said he started it and kept it running for 1/2 hour and shut it off. He said it had something to do with the "relay switch" that lives under the hood. The only way to start it was to use a little cable: one side (clip) connected to the positive terminal of the battery and the other (loose cable) connected into a terminal in the fuse box. He wasn't sure exactly how this was happening but said he would get more information by today. Do you have any idea what this could be about?

Thanks for your help!

Could very well possibly be the Fuel Pump Relay....do you have an Imbolizer in this vehicle? Make sure all the Grounds are checked....is he referring to the Main relay?...
