Clicking while braking
 

Today I noticed a clicking sound while I'm breaking. It happens below 5 mph while in traffic or when 5 mph is reached in a stop. I thought it was something rolling around, however, I can feel it on the gear selector (auto trans). It only does it in drive and not reverse.

Is there anything that would cause this that anyone is aware of? Possibly the e brake?

Guessing but if you're feeling it in the shifter, engine and/or trans mounts bay be shot...

It's strange that it only shows up below 5 mph and in drive. Wouldn't it be noticeable at other speeds too? Is there a way to test the mounts? Finally, would they be covered under warranty?

Do you still hear and feel the clicking if the car is rolling at ~5 mph but you are not applying brakes?

no only when applying the brake. I even feel it at idle if moving forward under 5 mph. Like in traffic.

You might need a second person if you're not sure what you're looking at but the "standard" method I've always used short of visual inspections:
- Open the hood. Have someone place the car in Drive, left foot firmly on the brake (E-brake on as well) and give it some gas so the engine "torques", or applies pressure to the mounts. Then do the same thing in Reverse. If the engine/trans assembly rocks back & forth more than an inch or two, you have bad or worn mounts...

This is all speculation on my part of course. Kinda like calling the doctor and asking what's wrong over the phone.. :)

**Update**

I took it in to the dealer and they advised that it is the solenoid for the gearshift. I was told that it engages under 5 MPH. Upon testing, from park when the brake is pressed, the noise can be heard and felt.

My question now is, does everyone else have the solenoid that can be heard and felt? If not, would this be something that is covered under warranty?

Also, does anyone have the steps to remove the plate around the shifter?

I own a 2014 Sonata 2.0 Turbo Limited. Heard a clicking sound when sitting or driving only in "D" drive with engine running, not Reverse, not neutral, It definitely was coming from the left front brake caliper. Took it off, sprayed in WD40 and put it back together, Problem solved. Three years went by and it started to do the same thing, took off the caliper, sprayed in WD40 and problem solved. Just got done doing it 30 minutes ago..

Sounds like you found a good "Band Aid Fix".

There are anti-rattle clips /spacers that are supposed to keep the caliper in position and permit sliding. If pads were replaced and under the spacers was not cleaned thoroughly ,they can't do their job. May or may not apply, need to see what is there.
