The engine light, battery light and oil light will ALWAYS go on when the engine stalls. That doesn't tell you anything other than the engine stalled. You need to find out why the engine stalled. Get the computer scanned for codes.

Sonata 05 dies while driving

I also have a 2005 Sonata (54,000 mi) that suddenly died on me while driving it last week. After coasting to the side of the road, turning off for 5-10 mins and restarting, I could drive a mile or two before it died again. After doing this for a few times, it would not start at all. The engine was turning over, but still car would not start. Had it towed to the dealer who found it needed a new crankshaft sensor. The dealer told me that it "started hard" even after the sensor was replaced, so they wondered if the fuel pump might need replacing....couldn't guarantee that there was an issue with it, but were guessing there might be. Subsequent 'starts' and simulated road driving at dealer turned out okay though. My husband and I picked the car up and all seemed fine. But, within the first week of having it back, twice the car has died while driving it. Both times, I was able to restart it after turning it off for 5-10 mins. I really don't want an unreliable car (especially since I live in a cold winter climate), but I also don't want to pay $500-$600 to have the fuel pump replaced and find out that wasn't the real issue. Has anyone else experienced my problem? Thanks for any info anyone can give me.

Hi!
I hope you cured your problem. I am having a similar problem. My 2002 4cyl Sonata began to act like it wasn't shifting right - seemed like it coughed, but it would run okay after that (it happened a few times). It seemed to run okay for a while and then it stalled. It would NOT start - no matter how many times I tried. After about 5 minutes, it started and ran without any problems. The next time I went out, it happened again. I scanned it with a code reader and it said I had a "miss" in the 1st cylinder. I cleared the code hoping it would be okay, but it happens every time I drive it. It seems that after the initial start, I can drive anywhere up to 2-3 miles before the stall, but after waiting about 5 minutes, it will start and run without problems until I park it and start it again. Now I'm looking for the cure. Any ideas?
Thanks, Michael

had the same issue, i'd put money on it that it's the crankshaft sensor faulting out. every 2002-2005 sonata owner i know has had issue with that sensor...
