limp home mode

so I've taken it and had diagnostic test's done... and its throwing codes that nobody has heard of... (something about exhaust pressure) But everytime I drive it, its in limp home mode (where it is in 3rd from start to stop) . I am scared that its reall bad on my car.. being more of a do it urself person, I would rather not take it into a shot, knowin my luck it'll be something easy... I question it having to do with the egr valve.....? help

RE: limp home mode

Limp home mode is often due to a bad transmission input or output sensor; if there is a big miscompare between the two, it just sets it into third gear as a "safe" mode. If you want to DIY, try looking at http://www.hyundaitechinfo.com, Hyundai's service manuals online. You can sign up and view all for free. A tip: If they don't send you a password right away, go back in and select the Forgot Password option. It seems like it's about a 50-50 chance whether the password gets sent the first time.
